NEW DELHI: After scripting history with a breathtaking 269 in the second Test against England at Edgbaston, India captain Shubman Gill had an emotional moment off the field when he received a heartwarming congratulatory message from his parents.
The BCCI captured the touching moment in a video montage, giving fans a glimpse into Gill’s post-match evening - from media duties and autographs to an emotional hotel arrival filled with dhol beats and cheers.

While reflecting on his day, Gill said with a smile, "I went to the pool for some recovery, came back, showered. I was having dinner and you guys stopped me in the middle to record this." He added, "Once I’m done with my routine, that’s when I check my phone before bed - mainly to speak to my family and close friends."
The message from his parents struck a deeper chord. His father said, "Shubman beta, well played. Aaj teri batting dekhke bahut maza aaya. Aur dil mein bahut shukun mila...bahut hi proud feel huwa." His mother added, "Bahut achcha laga tumhari batting dekhkar. Keep going, God bless you."
Visibly moved, Gill responded: "This message means a lot to me. Growing up, I played almost all my cricket for my dad. He and my best friend are the only two people I listen to when it comes to cricket. But yes... it also reminded me that I missed my triple hundred!"
Gill’s monumental innings helped India post 587 all out, their highest Test total in England in 35 years. The bowlers capitalised on the momentum, reducing England to 25 for 3 before a brief fightback by Joe Root and Harry Brook took them to 77 for 3 at stumps, still trailing by 510 runs.
